Alexandra Kerry avoids prosecution for DUI

By Christina Wilkie - 11/23/09 06:40 PM ET

Alexandra Kerry, daughter of Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), will not be prosecuted in connection with a suspected drunk driving incident last week in Los Angeles, according to Agence France Presse.

Kerry was pulled over in Hollywood by a highway patrol car around midnight on Thursday, and taken into custody after police administered a field sobriety test.

A breathalyzer at the police station revealed her blood alcohol level to be .06, which is below the .08 legal limit, but which can still carry penalties in many states, including California.

“We've declined to file charges in that matter due to insufficiency of the evidence,” Frank Mateljan of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office told Agence France Press on Monday.

At press time, neither Kerry nor her father had released a statement.
