Gov. Kaine celebrates smoking ban in pub

Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine (D) will pay a visit to Chadwick's, a popular Alexandria pub, on Tuesday at 2 p.m., but he won't be there for the Guinness. Instead, Kaine will "recognize the enactment of the Virginia smoking ban and encourage Virginians to go out and support their local smoke-free restaurants and bars."

A smoking ban in Virginia bars and restaurants went into effect at midnight on Dec. 1, after a bruising legislative battle in the state's General Assembly.

Judging by promo photos like this one still up on Chadwick's website (note the ashtray, lower right), last night's cigarette smoke may still be clinging to the barstools while the governor speaks.
