Replica state dinner menus offered in New York, Chicago

By Christina Wilkie - 12/10/09 12:11 PM ET

Chef Marcus Samuelsson, the guest-chef for the White House state dinner last month, is offering exact replicas of the menu he prepared for visitng Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh at his two restaurants, C-House Fish and Chops in Chicago, Ill. and Riingo, in New York City. The replica dinners were first reported by Obama food blog Obamafoodorama.

The state dinner menu was offered for one night in Chicago on Wednesday, and will be offered nightly in New York from Dec. 14 through Dec. 20.

Samuelsson (pictured here in the White House kitchen) has so far not received any response from the White House about his plan to recreate the mostly vegetarian menu, which fused traditional Indian spices and techniques with seasonal ingredients. Blogger Eddie Kohan notes that this is unusual; the White House typically discourages employees from trying to profit from their proximity to a presidential event.
