Senate Environment and Public Works markup a "zoo"

By Kate Oczypok - 12/10/09 03:38 PM ET

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee markup looks like quite the zoo today. An amendment to add constrictor snakes of the python species as injurious animals will be discussed, as well as plans for fish and migratory bird conservation.

There are also plans to authorize Secretary Ken Salazar to give financial assistance to Louisiana to help develop ways to eradicate or control feral swine.

Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-Fla.) has been lobbying to make it illegal to buy, sell or transport three of Earth’s most dangerous pythons within the U.S., The Hill previously reported.

Basically, it’s good to be a fish or bird right now, but certainly not a python.
