President Obama to thank University of Kentucky basketball team Tuesday

President Barack Obama will call the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team Tuesday afternoon to thank it for raising over $1 million for Haiti earthquake relief efforts through “Hoops for Haiti."

“Hoops for Haiti” is a telethon that was led by University of Kentucky’s head coach John Calipari. Coach Calipari led the telethon on Jan. 17 and it was streamed live at www.wkyt.com, according to hoopsforhaiti.org.

Obama is a huge basketball fan. He hosted the Los Angeles Lakers, the NBA's defending champion at the White House Monday and watched his youngest daughter Sasha play in a game in Chevy Chase, Md. on Saturday.
