White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton indulged in a little payback on Tuesday at his former boss, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.
Before they were West Wing colleagues, Burton worked for then-Rep. Emanuel (D-Ill.) at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), where the congressman's creative use of profanity, and at times contentious relations with staff, were well documented.
Emanuel made news this week when he said in an interview that he would like to run for mayor of Chicago.
When asked by a reporter whether President Barack Obama thinks Emanuel would make a good Windy City mayor, Burton couldn't help but give his former boss some grief. "I think the President thinks that Rahm Emanuel is a great chief of staff and enjoys having him in that job right now." Burton replied before adding, "Maybe 'enjoy' is the wrong word."
