Shaheen hosts the best of New Hampshire, and a moose

There was lobster, venison, and truffled trout for dinner on Thursday night at the New Hampshire State Society's "Experience New Hampshire" reception. And Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) was enjoying it all.

"These chocolates are amazing," she told ITK, standing near a display table in the Kennedy Caucus Room that was loaded with gourmet treats. "And I certainly plan to have a New Hampshire beer before the party's over."

The room was set with more than two dozen tables where the storied resort The Balsams, as well as the Michelin-rated Common Man restaurant, were just some of the first-rate venues offering guests generous portions of lobster salad, smoked trout, and artisanal cheeses, among other dishes. Surveying all the action from one corner was a 10 foot-tall stuffed moose, although thankfully not a real one.

ITK spotted a number of lawmakers, including Sens. Mark Begich (D-Alaska), Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) (pictured here) and Susan Collins (R-Maine).

Notably absent? Retiring Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.). Gregg's office did not immediately comment on why the senaror couldn't make it, but ITK will update this post if it does.
