Country music legend Charlie Daniels on Friday published an open letter accusing President Obama of being socialist, elitist, and naive.
Daniels, best known for his 1979 number one hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," is an outspoken conservative.
The letter was published on the conservative site newsbusters.org. In it, Daniels attacks the proposed Islamic cultural center in lower Manhattan, the social welfare system, and healthcare reform.
Daniels stops short of accusing Obama of being Muslim.
"Am I accusing you of being a Muslim? No I'm not," he writes, "But the jury is
still out a little bit on that subject in my mind, because many times
your sympathies seem to lean in that direction. You need to watch who
you bow to Mr. President."
The letter concludes, "Am I calling you a failure, Mr. President? With all due respect
that's exactly what I'm doing."
Daniels is the author of a 2003 book titled Ain't No Rag: Freedom, Family, and the Flag.
