Future staffers to Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) be warned: before you call the cops because the congressman is missing, check to make sure he’s not wandering around somewhere.
Becca Glover Watkins, who works as press secretary for the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which Issa chairs, says he “has an ability to escape from aides assigned to accompany him during events. You have to pay attention to where he is because if you don’t, he’ll slip away and stop in at another office or event.”
Glover Watkins, one of five women profiled in The Daily Beast as a “Secret Powerbroker of D.C.,” sounds a lot like Issa’s wrangler-in-chief. She tells the site, “Nothing’s more nerve-wracking than not knowing where he is ten minutes before he’s set to be on national television in front of millions of people.”
Yet the press secretary says her boss “always make it on time with a huge grin on his face” for his T.V. appearances. Glover Watkins adds: “I’ve gotten used to the challenge of keeping track of him now, but there were a few times when I thought he had been kidnapped.”
