Romney and Obama both 'Modern Family' fans

By Judy Kurtz - 11/02/12 10:02 AM ET

They might not agree on much, but both Mitt Romney and President Obama can come together on at least one thing: they’re fans of “Modern Family.”

In separate interviews with TV Guide magazine this week, the two presidential candidates say that they love viewing the hit ABC comedy with their spouses.

But when they’re each flying solo with the remote, Romney and Obama’s T.V. preferences differ just a bit.

While the GOP presidential candidate digs other comedy series such as “30 Rock,” he also likes “Justified,” “NCIS,” and the now-defunct “Friday Night Lights.”

Obama prefers gritty dramas, including “Boardwalk Empire,” “Homeland” and “The Wire,” but says he’s also a sports junkie, telling the mag, “I confess I am an avid watcher of ‘SportsCenter.’ ”

The commander-in-chief reveals that these days both he and the first lady program the DVR at the White House. But the couple had to first get a lesson from their 11-year-old daughter. “Sasha had to teach Michelle and me how to program it because we didn't know how to do it ourselves," he said.

Romney admits that he usually relinquishes all control of the T.V., saying his wife usually runs the show: “I program the DVR to record whatever Ann tells me we are going to watch!”
