Cory Booker, Jay-Z change up lyrics to popular rap song
Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker is taking a page from the Jay-Z songbook.
The New Jersey Democrat, who has been tweeting up a storm while assisting with emergency operations since Superstorm Sandy made landfall in the Garden State last week, responded to one Twitter user with a line from one of the rapper’s most popular tracks.
Someone named Lee Daly posted on Twitter on Monday, “Here @corybooker, can you sort the pothole outside?”
Booker, who has been rumored to be mulling a Senate or gubernatorial bid when his term ends in 2014, replied, “Sir, it looks like you live in Dublin, Ireland. I’ve got 99 problems [and] your ditch ain’t one.”
The tweet references Brooklyn-born Jay-Z’s 2004 single, “99 Problems.” Booker, however, substituted “ditch” for the original, PG-13-rated rhyme.
The Jay-Z song appeared to be a popular choice on Monday. The same day, the artist himself chose to change up the lyrics while performing at a campaign rally for President Obama in Ohio.
Jay-Z rapped, “I got 99 problems but a Mitt ain’t one,” minutes before introducing Obama.
