Fans call McAuliffe 'governor' before official announcement

By Judy Kurtz - 11/12/12 12:31 PM ET

He hadn’t made it official yet, but that didn’t stop some people from calling Terry McAuliffe “governor” on Election Day.

When ITK spotted the former Democratic National Committee chairman dining out in downtown D.C. ahead of President Obama’s win on Tuesday, numerous folks went up to the chairman for Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign and were heard referring to him as “governor.” A smiling McAuliffe didn’t seem to blink at the repeated terms of political endearment.

McAuliffe emailed supporters on Friday to tell them he was making his second swipe at a gubernatorial nomination, writing, “I plan on running for Governor of Virginia in 2013.”
