McCain names fellow senator 'biggest turkey' in DC

By Judy Kurtz - 11/20/12 12:59 PM ET

Sen. John McCain better buy his colleague a nice present this Christmas to make up for his playful Thanksgiving jab.

When ITK asked the Arizona Republican at last Tuesday’s party policy lunches to name the biggest turkey in Washington, McCain paused to ponder an answer before giving his response, a delighted expression on his face.

“[Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)], because every place I went with him campaigning north of the Mason-Dixon Line, I had to translate his remarks,” cracked McCain.

Graham, who speaks with a distinctive Southern inflection, is a longtime friend of the 2008 GOP presidential candidate. The duo hit the campaign trail together this year for Richard Mourdock and Tommy Thompson in Indiana’s and Wisconsin’s Senate races. (Both Republicans lost.)

Graham’s office didn’t get back to us about McCain’s gibe.
