Lieberman named 'Orthodox Jewish All-Star'

By Judy Kurtz - 12/11/12 05:13 PM ET

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) is one of the “Top 10 Orthodox Jewish All-Stars” according to a website called JewintheCity.com.

The inaugural list is made up of individuals who “have reached the pinnacle of their respective fields while maintaining a religiously observant lifestyle,” according to a press release.

In a YouTube video featuring interviews with each of the honorees, Lieberman says, “Being a religiously observant Jew, an orthodox Jew, has not only not been an obstacle to the dreams, the career goals that I’ve had – I think it’s actually helped me. It’s strengthened me and I think it’s gained the respect of non-Jews.”

Some of the other Orthodox Jews who made the cut include basketball player Tamir Goodman, former HBO senior writer and producer Jamie Geller, author Faye Kellerman, and singer Alex Clare.

JewintheCity.com describes itself as a website and social media platform that “breaks down stereotypes about religious Jews.”

In the YouTube clip, Lieberman, who is retiring this year, jokes, “I’m Joe Lieberman and I approve of Jew in the City. I also approve of Jews in suburban and rural areas.”
