Congresswoman sends out fiscal cliff holiday card

By Judy Kurtz - 12/20/12 11:06 AM ET

First, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) coined the term “Cliffmas." Now a congresswoman is taking the fiscal cliff drama to a new extreme — including a mention of it in her annual holiday card.

Rep. Loretta Sanchez is known for her quirky Xmas notes, which in the past have featured the California Democrat on motorcycles or posing with her beloved (and now-deceased) cat, Gretzky.

This year, the lawmaker is seen donning a festive, red dress as she kicks up her leg alongside her husband, Jack Einwechter. A message accompanying the photo says, “May you dance with joy this holiday season…(just not too close to fiscal cliffs.)”

In a statement about the holiday message Sanchez says, “I’m glad to send some holiday cheer to my friends, family, and especially to my colleagues as we negotiate to resolve the fiscal cliff conundrum.”

She added, “Humor can be the best way to break the ice. I hope this card gives everyone a chuckle.”

The inside of the card, which is funded and sent out by Sanchez’s reelection campaign, shows a photo of Gretzky with a halo above his head and reads, “Best wishes in the New Year.”

Although she’s seen cradling a green stocking full of presents like a baby in the photo, we hear Sanchez’s pose isn’t mean to allude to any impending bundle of joy news for the 52-year-old member of Congress.
