McCaskill wears family heirloom for swearing-in
Sen. Claire McCaskill is keeping memories of her mother close at hand as she’s sworn in at the Capitol.
On Thursday, the Missouri Democrat wrote on Twitter, “Really missing mom. Wearing her wedding rings today. She would’ve been so happy and making new friends all over the Capitol.”
McCaskill’s mother, Betty Anne Ward McCaskill, died at 84 in October, just days before her daughter retained her Senate seat by defeating Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) in the election.
But McCaskill certainly got some TLC from other members of her growing brood on Thursday. The lawmaker, who welcomed a grandson in November, also tweeted, “So happy to have so many family here today for swearing in. Pictures later, but 6 of 7 children, 5 of 6 grandchildren, my siblings, 23 in all!”
