Official Obama inauguration store selling $7,500 medallion set

By Judy Kurtz - 01/03/13 12:54 PM ET

Along with the lower-priced tchotchkes in the just-unveiled Presidential Inaugural Committee online store is one item with an eye-popping price tag: a medallion set that goes for a whopping $7,500.

The high-cost collection (which doesn’t include shipping!) comes complete with a bronze, silver and gold medallion bearing President Obama’s likeness and marking the 57th presidential inauguration on Jan. 21. But not to worry about your medallions being phony — all those thousands of bucks also buys a certificate of authenticity, along with a “decorative display box.”

While the medallion set is easily the highest-priced souvenir in the store, some other items will also cost customers a pretty penny. A single silver medallion goes for $1,250; a panoramic framed photo of Obama during the 2013 inauguration festivities will run $400; a cotton throw blanket featuring the inaugural seal is $165; and a poster of a smiling Obama costs $100.

Some not-so-expensive products for sale in the Presidential Inaugural Committee store include $15 “Obama 44” tube socks, an inauguration ruler for $2.50, and a $10 Obama can holder.
