Sen. Flake's daughter gets engaged on Capitol dome

By Judy Kurtz - 01/07/13 11:22 AM ET

It’s not every parent whose workplace doubles as a good spot for a marriage proposal.

But the Capitol dome was the ideal place for Sen. Jeff Flake’s soon-to-be son-in-law, who recently popped the question to the Arizona Republican’s 21-year-old daughter, Alexis.

Last Wednesday the lawmaker wrote on Twitter, “What a week. Will be sworn in as US Senator tomorrow, and daughter Alexis got engaged on top of US Capitol Dome today.”

A photo shows Flake’s smiling daughter wearing a red jacket as her now-fiance, Jason Arias, 26, looks up to her while down on one knee high atop the Capitol.

The couple met in Washington last summer while Alexis, a 2009 Arizona Junior Miss, interned in D.C. with ABC’s “Good Morning America.” ITK hears the Brigham Young University students, who both graduate in April, will likely plan for a May wedding.

And the news gets even better for Flake, who also has four sons — word is the pair plans on settling in the nation’s capital following their nuptials.
