Q-Tip performs at Planned Parenthood, Rock the Vote inaugural party
Planned Parenthood celebrated President Obama's second term Sunday with a rollicking party in one of Washington's premier concert venues.
Planned Parenthood and Rock the Vote — a get-out-the-vote group focused on young voters — celebrated the inaugural as well as the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which falls on Tuesday.
Q-Tip, a founding member of the hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, served as DJ, keeping the party going with an accessible mix of '70s disco, '80s Michael Jackson and early-'90s hip-hop.
The bars on both levels were strewn with Planned Parenthood-branded condoms.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards, decked out in a gold sequined dress, mingled with VIPs on the upper level of Washington's 9:30 Club. The venue was filled to its 1,200-person capacity as party-goers danced on the main level and VIPs enjoyed an open bar and light appetizers above.
Speeches and videos celebrated Obama, a strong ally of abortion-rights supporters.
