Beyoncé’s accolade-winning rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at the presidential inauguration was reportedly lip-synced.

A spokesman for the U.S. Marine Corps Band said the “Single Ladies” hit-maker was singing along to a pre-recorded version of the anthem, according to Singing to a back-up track is said to be a standard practice for many live performers.

The U.S. Marine Corps Band didn’t return ITK’s call for additional comment.

The pop singer had received high marks for her version of the patriotic tune that she performed following President Obama’s swearing-in ceremony.

Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.), who snapped an a up-close photo of Beyoncé and her husband, rapper Jay-Z, at the inaugural festivities on Monday, said after learning the anthem was apparently lip-synced, “Why ruin a good story?” He added to New York magazine, “She did a great job singing it and made everybody feel good.”

Beyoncé, who is headlining the halftime show at the Super Bowl next month, has not commented on the lip-syncing buzz.

UPDATE (4:00 p.m.) : A publicist for Beyonce didn't return ITK's request for comment.
