Go nuts! Lawmakers form Congressional Peanut Caucus

By Judy Kurtz - 01/29/13 12:30 PM ET

Congress is getting nutty (again).

Reps. Martha Roby (R-Ala.) and Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.) will co-chair the Congressional Peanut Caucus in the 113th Congress. The nut-loving group was founded last year by the two lawmakers.

The bipartisan caucus, made up of 17 lawmakers from peanut-producing states, said in a Tuesday statement it will work together “to ensure that peanut interests have a strong voice in Congress, and that peanut issues are taken into account in agriculture legislation.”

Bishop wrote in the news release that he doesn’t mind any cracks about his passion for peanuts, “I have had the distinct honor of being known as the ‘Peanut Congressman,’ a title I wear with great pride and take very seriously.”
