Romney beats Santa, Roseanne Barr in presidential votes

By Emily Goodin - 01/31/13 01:32 PM ET

Republican candidate Mitt Romney may not have won the presidency, but he can take comfort in the fact he beat 68 other people who received votes for America's top job.

About 2.2 million voters picked someone other than President Obama or Romney on Election Day, according to an analysis from CNN, which means an alternative choice compromised 1.7 percent of the total vote.

Some popular picks: actress Roseanne Barr, who ran on the Peace and Freedom ticket, placed sixth with 67,324 votes; Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party received more than 1.2 million votes; former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) received 35,387 votes; and Santa Claus received 625 votes.

Official results aren't out yet.

In 2008, the Federal Election Commission released the complete vote totals in August of 2009, revealing that Santa Claus was a popular choice that cycle, as was Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, former President Clinton and Jesus.
