By Judy Kurtz - 01/31/13 02:20 PM ET

Two House members are mourning the loss of their fathers.

Christopher Van Hollen, Sr., the dad of Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), passed away Wednesday night at the age of 90. Van Hollen was a diplomat and former U.S. ambassador who served for 25 years as a foreign service officer at the State Department. His son, the congressman, was born in Pakistan in 1959.

A statement from the lawmaker’s office said, “Congressman Van Hollen and his family appreciate your thoughts and prayers at this time.”

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) also lost her father on Wednesday, according to Tennessee’s Clarksville Online.

Hilman Wedgeworth was a retired sales and management professional for a steel company as well as a U.S. Army veteran.

A funeral service for Blackburn’s dad will be held on Feb. 2 in Mississippi.
