Basketball coach presents McConnell with Final Four flooring

By Judy Kurtz - 02/06/13 04:18 PM ET

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is the proud owner of some new flooring.

On Wednesday, University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari posted a message on Twitter, writing, “Wanted to give Sen. Mitch McConnell a piece of our national championship floor while I was here.”

An accompanying photo shows a smiling McConnell — a graduate of the university’s law school — posing for a photo with Calipari while holding a slab of the 2012 NCAA men’s basketball champs’ floor.

McConnell spokesman Robert Steurer tells ITK the gift is “a piece of the actual floor from the Final Four in New Orleans.”

The University of Kentucky Wildcats defeated the University of Kansas Jayhawks last year to win its eighth NCAA championship.

Steurer says his boss “plans to proudly display it in his front office so that all the fans of Big Blue Nation will be able to see it when they’re visiting his office in the nation’s capital.”
