First lady rooting for Kelly Clarkson to win Grammy
Looks like Grammy nominee Michelle Obama prefers a Kelly Clarkson chart-topper to Carly Rae Jepsen’s uber-catchy tune, “Call Me Maybe." The first lady says in a new interview that she’s rooting for Clarkson and Frank Ocean at Sunday’s Grammy Awards.
Obama tells People magazine she’ll be cheering on Clarkson — who belted out “My Country 'Tis of Thee” at last month’s presidential inauguration — for the Song of the Year category at the annual awards show.
Obama said the pop singer’s hit “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” is “an empowering song with a positive message.”
The track faces tough competition from the Jepsen single; “The A Team” by Ed Sheeran; “We Are Young" by Fun and Janelle Monae; and “Adorn,” by Miguel Pimentel.
Obama calls Ocean a “young, innovative performer with a soulful sound.”
Ocean’s “Channel Orange” faces off against records from The Black Keys, Fun, Mumford & Sons and Jack White in the Album of the Year category.
