Freshman Dem asks freshman Republican for a 'date night'

The very married Rep. David Joyce (R-Ohio) is going on a date Tuesday night — but we have a feeling his wife, Kelly, will be understanding about this particular outing.

“Date night” for the freshman congressman involves sitting next to Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.) at the Capitol during President Obama’s State of the Union address.

Joyce was a bit taken aback when Bustos initially approached him, telling the Akron Beacon Journal he told the congresswoman with a chuckle, “I’m not sure how that would go over at home.”

But when he realized this particular evening with Bustos (a fellow freshman who is married) would be purely platonic — and a show of bipartisanship among congressional colleagues — he was all for it.

“I told her, 'I’d be glad to,' " Joyce, a dad of three, said in an interview with the paper. “She’s a real nice lady.”
