Rubio prefers Poland Spring; Jackson Lee likes Deer Park
Congress can’t even agree on bottled water.
An airplane-sized bottle of Poland Spring water made its unexpected debut during the GOP response to Tuesday’s State of the Union address, delivered by Sen. Marco Rubio.
The Florida Republican took an awkward swig of his H2O as he neared the end of his speech, triggering a waterfall of comments on social media sites. Following his remarks, Rubio acknowledged what was quickly dubbed “Watergate,” posting a photo of a Poland Spring bottle — which, despite its name, actually comes from Maine — on his Twitter account.Half an hour later on Tuesday night, NBC News correspondent Luke Russert tweeted a photo of a political odd couple: gun-rights advocate and rocker Ted Nugent appearing to embrace Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas).
Jackson Lee is seen smiling as she gazes up at the outspoken guitarist. Clutched in her left hand is a bottle of Deer Park water.
But perhaps there’s hope for the across-the-aisle aqua pura opponents; despite their competitive brand names, both Poland Spring and Deer Park are actually owned by the same company, Nestlé.
