Poland Spring rep: Rubio 'seemed very natural'

By Judy Kurtz - 02/13/13 05:56 PM ET

A spokeswoman for Poland Spring says of the bottled water’s unexpected cameo during Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) GOP response to the State of the Union address, “Everyone gets thirsty and we’re really glad Poland Spring was close at hand.”

Jane Lazgin says the Florida Republican’s move “seemed very natural.” Rubio lit up the Internet Tuesday after pausing near the end of his response to take a sip of water from a bottle that was placed on a faraway table.

The bottled water company, which is owned by Nestle, posted a photo Wednesday on Facebook about its big moment. In the snapshot, a bottle of Poland Spring is seen gazing into a large, lighted dressing room mirror along with the caption, “Reflecting on our cameo. What a night!”

As it turns out, this isn’t the first time Poland Spring has had a starring role during a State of the Union speech. Lazgin says there’s a photo floating around of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt with a bottle of Poland Spring from his State of the Union address.
