House Dems winning press release war
When it comes to getting the word out, Democrats are winning the press release race.
Democratic House members publish 31 percent more press statements per member than their Republican counterparts, according to a just-released study by Smart Politics, the University of Minnesota’s nonpartisan political news website.
The site examined more than 6,200 press releases sent out during the first two months of the 113th Congress. The findings show that, despite having 32 fewer members in the House, Democrats issued 400 more releases than GOP lawmakers.
Although Democrats came out on top in terms of percentages, a Republican takes the crown as the press release-releasing queen.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) took the second-place slot, with 69 releases, followed by Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.), with 60. Reps. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.) round out the top five press release pros.
Ros-Lehtinen tells ITK in an email that between sending out press releases on global issues for residents of her “international city” and keeping folks abreast of the “many pressing local needs,” her congressional district office is “quite busy.” She added, “It’s a great mix of topics that make Miami such an attractive destination for foreigners. My press office is also very active in letting the people I proudly represent inform local media of my whereabouts and community activities.”
Perhaps surprisingly, Pelosi’s office didn’t respond to ITK’s request for comment, even in a press release.
