Mr. T calls congressman his 'hero'

By Judy Kurtz - 03/07/13 02:41 PM ET

Mr. T is calling Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) his “hero.”

The gold chain-wearing, “I pity the fool,”-talking tough guy (born Laurence Tureaud) took to Twitter on Thursday, writing of the 14-term congressman, “Thank you Rep John Lewis for your courage 48 years ago in Selma, Alabama. You are my hero! #bloodysunday”

Thursday marked the 48th anniversary of the first of three Selma to Montgomery, Ala., marches during the civil-rights movement.

Lewis is a noted civil-rights activist who served as chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee during the 1960s.

The 60-year-old Mr. T, of “A-Team” and wrestling fame, wrote in a follow-up tweet, “I am so grateful to you and the other Freedom Riders in our struggle for Civil Rights.”
