Fashion designer Vivienne Westwood on Michelle Obama: 'It's dreadful what she wears'

Acclaimed designer Vivienne Westwood is definitely not a fan of Michelle Obama’s fashion sense, bashing the West Wing resident’s style and calling it “dreadful” in a new interview.

In a Q&A this week with the New York Times, the outspoken wardrobe maven, 71, said at the mention of the first lady, “Don’t talk about her. It’s dreadful what she wears.”

Obama is often noted for mixing high-end items with affordable pieces for her outfits.

The British designer continued, “I don’t want to talk about it. Really, I can’t. She’s a very nice looking lady, but it’s a nonstarter regarding clothes that suit her.”

Westwood added, “Jackie Kennedy was a different matter altogether. It just has to suit her and be something that makes a human being more glamorous. That’s what fashion is there for. It’s there to help, not just to make you look more conservative.”
