Connolly tests his St. Patrick’s Day stand-up routine with Rep. Larson

By Judy Kurtz - 03/14/13 03:04 PM ET

WE HEAR: His annual St. Patrick’s Day shindig is still days away, but Rep. Gerry Connolly is already testing out material for the joke-filled festivities.

The Virginia Democrat typically cracks a few Irish-themed one-liners at the fete, and prides himself on having new ones each year.

Word is Connolly already tried out a few of his quips for Sunday’s 19th annual St. Paddy’s Day soiree, the largest yearly gathering of Democrats in Northern Virginia. The tradition doubles as a food drive and is usually attended by more than 1,000 folks.

Earlier this week, the congressman tested out a top-secret wisecrack on fellow Irish-American Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.) when the two were together at an event. An aide tells us, “Larson laughed, so it will probably be a keeper.”
