'Twilight' star introduces first domestic violence, sexual assault symbol on Capitol Hill

By Noura Alfadl-Andreasson - 03/14/13 04:26 PM ET

In the hit trilogy, “Twilight,” Ashley Greene plays a vampire with the power to see the future, but in real life the actress is aiming to use her star power to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault.

The entertainer, 26, was on hand Wednesday at the Dirksen Senate Office Building to unveil the “No More” symbol.

Just as the pink ribbon does for breast cancer, the designers of the No More symbol — which is marked by a blue vanishing point — say they hope to bring awareness and support to their cause through its creation.

Flanked by Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and six advocates, Greene told a crowd gathered for the briefing, “Young women are the population group with the highest rate of dating violence and sexual assault.”

Wearing a knee-length navy blue dress, black pumps, and understated makeup, she continued, “I hope that by raising my voice and speaking out, they might find the courage to leave abusive situations or to help their friends.“

Greene, who was appearing on behalf of the Avon Foundation for Women, also helped reveal the results of a national study on young people and sexual assault.
