Senator puts festive twist on his signature look

By Judy Kurtz - 03/18/13 03:21 PM ET

Sen. Lamar Alexander’s making big changes to his wardrobe — switching up his signature red and black plaid shirt for…a green version.

The Tennessee Republican — who donned what became a trademark plaid shirt when he walked more than 1,000 miles during his run for governor in 1978 — wore a festive green plaid button-up shirt as he strolled in a St. Patrick’s Day parade in the Volunteer State on Saturday.

The green look seems to only be a temporary twist for the 72-year-old lawmaker, who’s been known to still wear the red and black plaid shirt.
