Avid runner Sen. Thune sports medical boot

By Judy Kurtz - 03/19/13 03:51 PM ET

Sen. John Thune is sporting a medical boot on his right foot as he recovers from a condition called plantar fasciitis.

The South Dakota Republican, an avid runner, tells ITK that overuse caused the common condition, which inflames the tissue on the bottom of the foot.

Thune laughed to us Monday that virtually nothing would stop him from running before the boot, including ice-cold winters in the Mount Rushmore State.

The 52-year-old lawmaker said he expects to wear his new footwear for a few more weeks. As far as whether he can lace up his tennis shoes again for a run after that, Thune says, “We’ll see.”
