Edwards, a 2008 White House contender and former North Carolina senator, had his political ambitions derailed when reports surfaced that he was having an extramarital affair with Hunter while his wife was battling cancer. After an initial denial, Edwards admitted fathering a daughter with Hunter in 2010. Elizabeth Edwards died that same year.

Cate Edwards, founder of the Elizabeth Edwards Foundation, says of missing her mother: “I miss her in sort of big ways and small ways. You know, it's big things that go by, like my wedding. She wasn't able to be there. ... And then there are small things. I mean, I get away with bad grammar. I never used to get away with bad grammar. [Or] You know, I find a great deal online. We were super competitive about finding the best deal online.”

In portions of the sit-down released by NBC News, Edwards discloses that she met Hunter “a long time ago.” She also said of the tell-all book Hunter released last year, “I thought it was a poor choice, I guess, is all I can say.”

The full interview with Edwards is scheduled to air Friday on the “Today Show” and “Rock Center with Brian Williams.”
