Rep. Walz wins Sen. Franken's cook-off competition

Klobuchar, however, seemed concerned that props would sway the decision, as Walz included a Hermann the German figurine with his submission and others brought bottles of Minnesota-brewed beer.

Walz took home the grand prize, a Pyrex dish fastened with a celebratory plaque, as well as a year of casserole bragging rights. Former Reps. Vin Weber (R-Minn.) and Gerry Sikorski (D-Minn.) served as judges.

The friendly competition began in 2011, when Franken sought a way to "put partisanship aside" and celebrate the traditional Minnesota dish. Klobuchar took home the inaugural casserole platter, while Franken and former Rep. Chip Cravaack (R-Minn.) tied for first in last year's event.

Other participants included Minnesota Reps. Betty McCollum (D), Rick Nolan (D), Keith Ellison (D) and Erik Paulsen (R).
