Carole King to be honored at White House with Gershwin Prize

King, 71, will become the first woman to be awarded the Gershwin Prize. Past honorees have included Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

The Wednesday awards ceremony and concert — which will also feature performances by Gloria Estefan, Billy Joel, Jesse McCartney, Emeli Sandé, James Taylor and Trisha Yearwood — will be streamed live on the White House website and taped for a May 28 broadcast on PBS stations.
