“Meet the Press” senior executive producer Betsy Fischer Martin tweeted she was sending Ferguson “all good thoughts.”

Ferguson, an admitted workaholic, says a friend told him to think of fighting cancer as his job for the next few months. “I think I get that,” he says.

He finishes the post by writing, “I’ll be taking leave from my work sometime in the next two weeks to begin the treatment. If I can’t give quotes and interviews about Congress all day, I’ll need something to write and talk about. I guess this will be it.”
