The New York congresswoman will play a corpse in the Capulet family crypt in the American Ballet Theatre's production of "Romeo and Juliet," set to debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York on Monday. Maloney's cameo will be in a key scene where Romeo laments the death of Juliet.

Maloney's appearance reportedly began as a joke between her and Sharon Patrick, the president of the American Ballet Theatre, according to the New York Daily News

"It's not much of a role. I'll be playing dead," Maloney told the New York newspaper. "It's going to be fun."

When she was a teenager, Maloney dreamed of becoming a professional ballerina. But at 17, she was hit by a drunk driver and was hospitalized. Now, Maloney says she's "lucky to walk."

"But that was the end of my dancing career," Maloney said.
