"On Nov. 8th, whether you are Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, or Hufflepuff, whichever house you’re in, make sure you vote," the Oregon Democrat says in a new ad. "We must unite to defeat He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named."

"He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" is used in the "Harry Potter" book series as a reference to chief villain Lord Voldemort.

Merkley, who is not up for reelection this year, also briefly reads from the script of the new play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" in the ad, arguing voters are "as tired of political ads as I am."

"'The Sorting Hat is speaking: Are you afraid of what you’ll hear? Afraid I’ll speak the name you fear? Not Slytherin! Not Gryffindor! Not Hufflepuff! Not Ravenclaw! Don’t worry, child, I know my job," he says

The video, which was released Thursday from MoveOn.org Political Action, references a study from the University of Pennsylvania that found a political connection among Hogwarts fans.

"Scientists have found that people exposed to Harry Potter are more likely to oppose Donald Trump," the ad notes as Merkley reads lines from the play. "It's because Harry Potter espouses the values of respect and tolerance. Donald Trump does not."

A survey released earlier this year from the left-leaning NextGen Climate found that millennials disliked both Trump and Clinton more than Voldemort.
