President Obama made of a bit of a boo-boo on Thursday at the G8 Summit, reportedly repeatedly mixing up the British finance minister’s name with that of a popular soul singer.
But Obama soon realized the name mix-up, saying he simply had the “On the Wings of Love” singer Jeffrey Osborne on the brain.
“I’m sorry, man,” Obama said afterwords, “I must have confused you with my favorite R&B singer.”
In an interview with Sky News, the 65-year-old entertainer responded to the snafu, saying he was “delighted” by Obama’s blunder.
“I was really not aware that [Obama] was that much of a fan that he would call the chancellor ‘Jeffrey Osborne.’ ”
He added, “Tell the chancellor when I come over I will have to hook up with him and we will do a duet of 'On The Wings Of Love.' "
While the episode was dubbed “cringeworthy” by someone who witnessed the G8 name mistake, George Osborne later took to Twitter Thursday and wrote:
One unexpected breakthrough from G8 - offer to sing with legend @_JeffreyOsborne. Jeff you wouldn't suggest a duet if you'd heard me sing— George Osborne (@George_Osborne) June 20, 2013
