Moms to kids: Don’t become politicians!

Of course, politicians have rarely been popular. Gallup's polling numbers haven’t changed much from 1993, when the polling company began posing the political question to female parents about their sons and daughters. Back then, 61 percent of moms said they wouldn’t want their kids to strive for a career in politics.

The highest showing for mommies giving their seal of approval to political professions came in 1965, when Gallup asked the question just about sons. That year — nearly five decades ago — 36 percent of moms said they’d be A-OK with their boys getting into politics.
