Jay Z's fruitful friendship with President Obama has been well-documented, but the rapper and businessman revealed that it goes deeper than just campaign fundraisers hosted at Jay's Manhattan club — the two occasionally text.

"I've spoken to him on the phone and had texts from Obama. Of course," Jay-Z told radio station Hot97.

The rapper, born Shawn Carter, said Obama is a "regular guy," and, like most regular guys, speaks in sports metaphors.

"He's a regular guy as well. He's very heavy into sports so a lot of his analogies end up in sports," he said.

Jay-Z and wife, Beyonce, hosted a fundraiser for Obama's reelection effort in September of last year, which netted the president $4 million. The rapper said Obama had told him during the campaign to "give me the ball."

"I don't know if this is breaching national security but when he was getting elected the second time, he was like, 'Hey, you know, fourth quarter, just give me the ball.' I said, 'word,' " he said.

The powerful spouses of the two powerful men are also mutual admirers. No word on whether the women text too, however.
