The radio personality then asked, “Congressman Barletta, are you a Steelers fan?”
“No, I’m a Miami Dolphins fan,” the lawmaker replied.
Barletta, 57, gave no explanation for not rooting for the home team (or, alternatively, the Keystone State's other team, the Philadelphia Eagles). But perhaps Barletta likes cheering for the underdog — the Steelers last won the Super Bowl in 2009, while the Dolphins haven’t taken home the Lombardi Trophy since 1973.
Barletta’s office didn’t respond to ITK’s request for further comment.
UPDATE: Barletta spokesman Tim Murtaugh tells ITK in a Wednesday email, "The Congressman has been a Dolphins fan since he was young. When visiting his grandparents in Miami, his father would take him to the games. He remembers clearly the 1972 undefeated Dolphins, with Coach Don Shula and greats like Bob Griese and Larry Csonka."
