‘Meet the Press’ moderator proves to be secret weapon in charity tennis match

Breaux’s prediction appeared to ring true, with Gregory’s serve stealing the show in the first match at the Kastles’ Southwest Washington stadium. One fan yelled, “David, don’t hurt ‘em!” upon seeing the powerful play.

As he got ready to debut his best backhand, Indonesian Ambassador Dino Patti Djalal declared, “I’m going to hustle like I’m 18 again.”

But it was Djalal’s eye-catching yellow shoes that really made an impression on the tennis court. One opponent was heard shouting, “Your shoes are too bright!” as Djalal was serving the ball.

In the end, Gregory’s team, the Stripes, ended up claiming victory over their opponents, the Stars, by a score of 42-39. The NBC host was also named his team's MVP for the night.

All proceeds from the tennis showdown raised funds for the D.C. Public Education Fund, Food & Friends, and TAPS.
