GOP rep shows off model of Mexico border wall

John Kelly, tweeting a photo with him in front of a scale model of a proposed border wall with Mexico.

“Excellent Trump appointment for Secretary of Homeland Security, General John Kelly & I discuss border security with my wall model on table,” a tweet from King read.

When Trump first tapped Kelly for the position, the Washington Post reported that Kelly was selected because of his expertise on the U.S. southern border from his time leading Southern Command. Like Trump, he has warned of the threat of terrorists and drug smugglers crossing into the country from Mexico.

A border wall and stronger immigration policies were a major part of Trump’s campaign platform while running for office. On the campaign trail, Trump said Mexico would pay for a border wall.

Earlier this week, the president-elect started looking into getting funding for the wall from Congress, saying he would later ask for Mexico to reimburse the U.S. Mexico has repeated vehemently that it will not pay for such a wall.
