'Top Chef' host spices up debate over Sen. Ted Cruz's Canadian citizenship

The New Jersey-born restaurant owner, 51, tweeted:

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) released his birth certificate Sunday to the Dallas Morning News showing he was born in Canada to an American mother.

The paper reported that the lawmaker is likely a dual citizen.

On Monday, Cruz said in a statement that if the Dallas Morning News’ report was true, then “I will renounce any Canadian citizenship. Nothing against Canada, but I’m an American by birth and as a U.S. senator; I believe I should be only an American.”
