“Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow,” reads the solved puzzle's “Easter egg,” as highlighted by Twitter users who solved the puzzle.
The lyrics are from “Don’t Stop” by Fleetwood Mac, a song that Clinton used in multiple campaign stops, fundraisers, speeches and at his 1993 inaugural ball.
According to the Times, the former president wrote most of the clues for the day’s puzzle. He insisted upon a high standard for the puzzle, rejecting anything “too easy and boring.”
“Might as well print the answers in the puzzle,” he told his co-writer, Arkansas district court judge Victor Fleming of Little Rock.
Clinton is an accomplished crossword solver who regularly puzzles out the Times crosswords.
The crossword is part of a “Celebrity Crossword” series the Times is running as part of a yearlong celebration of the Times puzzle’s 75th anniversary.
The Times also noted that planned political guest puzzle writers are currently all Democrats and requests that any Republican puzzlers reach out to the editorial staff in order to participate.
