Rodman has visited Kim in North Korea on multiple occasions and has offered to broker talks between Trump and the North Korean leader.
During Rodman's June visit to North Korea, he brought a copy of Trump’s book "The Art of the Deal" with him as a gift for Kim.
On Tuesday, Rodman said he thinks Trump and Kim are “pretty much the same people.”
"They love control," Rodman told AFP in Beijing.
Rodman said during the interview he thinks he can "alleviate some pressures as far as communication" between the U.S. and North Korea.
Tensions between the U.S. and North Korea have increased in recent months.
In late November, Pyongyang launched a new intercontinental ballistic missile after a nearly two-month hiatus of missile launches.
Trump has repeatedly gone after Kim on Twitter, labeling him “Little Rocket Man” and threatening North Korea with “fire and fury.”
